NCCN participation in CWM-SARC workshop on Disaster Management
Wednesday 18th of July 2007 [ ??????, ???? २, २०६४ ]

12-14 July 07

The disaster events taken place in recent years has shown that the impact of disaster is increasing globally and millions of people have been affected every year. The effect of disaster has compounded. Improper and unplanned farming system, rapid and unplanned urbanization,   improper and haphazard exploitation of natural resources, rapid growth of population, climate change, lack of knowledge in people about disaster and safety measures to be taken to mitigate the risk of disaster  has been the key factors behind  the rapid increase of  disaster impact.

Though the disaster as an event  is out of human control, we can reduce the impact of disaster by providing education about disaster management; developing people centered warning system and developing a mechanism of effective rescue operation. We can make people aware to reduce the level of risk at the time of disaster. For this every sector of society has role to play and Church as a part of society can play important role to make people aware on disaster, its causes, and ways of reducing risk, operating relief programmes during the period of disaster.

Keeping this in mind the South Asia Regional Council of Council for World Mission (CWM-SARC) organized a workshop on disaster management in Delhi from 12-14 July 07 and NCCN was provided an opportunity to send its delegates for this important workshop. Representing NCCN, Mrs Ishwori shrestha, a board member of NCCN, participated in the workshop. She was able to share about the disaster situation in Nepal and learn about how the Church can play active role in disaster mitigating work.

We, on behalf of, Christian community of Nepal would like to thank CWM –SARC for organizing such an important workshop and giving us opportunity to send our delegates for the workshop.   NCCN NEWS 18 July07
